Abstract
Recorded 29 November 2023. Bela Bauer of Microsoft Research presents "Fault Tolerant Quantum Computation using Majorana-Based Topological Qubits" at IPAM's Topology, Quantum Error Correction and Quantum Gravity Workshop. Abstract: Topological qubits promise a path towards scalable, fault-tolerant quantum computation. In this talk, I will first introduce the tetron qubit, a variant of topological qubits built on Majorana zero modes in semiconductor-superconductor heterostructures. I will then describe how an array of such tetrons and a natural set of measurement-based operations on them can be used to implement scalable error correction, and review recent progress on codes that are tailored towards such an architecture.
