Abstract
Recorded 09 March 2022. Dominika Zgid presents "A physical/chemical motivation behind quantum embedding theories" at IPAM's Advancing Quantum Mechanics with Mathematics and Statistics Tutorials. Abstract: The cost of the exact solution of the many-electron problem is believed to be exponential in the number of degrees of freedom, necessitating approximations that are controlled and accurate but numerically tractable. One class of such approximations can be based on embedding methods. I will discuss Green's function embedding theories and other embedding approaches to explain the physical motivation behind them and familiarize the audience with basic concepts present in these approaches.
