Public Lecture: “The Master’s Hand: Can Image Analysis Detect the Hand of the Master” Ingrid Daubechies Duke University Applied Harmonic Analysis The talk will describe wavelets, a mathematical tool used for the analysis and compression of images (including for digital cinema), and how they have been used recently for the study of paintings by Van Gogh, Goossen van der Weyden, Gauguin, Giotto and others. The presentation describes image processing tools used to decide whether a painting is an original, or whether several parts of a painting were painted by the same person—or not.
