In this talk I will try to shed some light on the notion of a "nonnegative combinatorial interpretation", in particular for characters of the symmetric group, Kronecker coefficients, and plethysm coefficients. This is joint work with Igor Pak, Greta Panova, and Sathyawageeswar Subramanian.
