Genome-scale phylogenetics using gene tree parsimony

Presenter

Abstract
Gene tree parsimony (GTP) is a popular computational technique for genome-scale species tree reconstruction. This technique is distinguished from other phylogenomic methods by its use of parsimony-based reconciliation models to assess the fit of input gene trees with candidate species trees. In this talk, we will discuss the historical development of GTP-based problem formulations, algorithms, and software, describe some recent methodological advances, review experimental results assessing the performance of GTP-based and other phylogenomic methods on diverse datasets, and discuss promising new directions for future research.
