Abstract
Recorded 10 September 2024. Mayank Mehta of the University of California, Los Angeles, presents "Neural mechanisms of intelligence, Pt. 1 of 3" at IPAM's Mathematics of Intelligences Tutorials.
Abstract: Most of us think that humans are intelligent, though the precise metrics of intelligence are intensely debated (e.g. mastery in chess, go, GRE etc.). Most of us would agree that intelligence can exist without language, and hence can exist in animals too, where one can precisely measure the neural mechanisms of intelligence, to uncover the underlying algorithms. These will be discussed.
