Abstract
Recorded 10 January 2023. Frederick Klauschen of Ludwig-Maximilians-Universität München presents "AI in cancer research and diagnostics" at IPAM's Explainable AI for the Sciences: Towards Novel Insights Workshop.
Abstract: Given the rapid developments there is no doubt that artificial intelligence will have a major impact on diagnostics and, in particular, on anatomic pathology. It remains to be seen, however, if AI will be an assist system for pathologists to improve their current work, or if it will lead to completely novel biomarkers and even replace human medical experts. In my talk, I will review the current state of AI in pathology and present solutions to different challenges with a focus on explainability methods. While a major application is in histological imaging, I will show how AI can also facilitate the analysis and interpretation of molecular “omics” data with the perspective to integrate heterogeneous multi-modal data both in research and diagnostics.
