Static correlation Kieron Burke University of California, Irvine (UCI) I will introduce the ideas behind static correlation. We will use stretched H2 as our prototype. I will discuss the Heitler-London wavefunction and the Coulson-Fischer point, and explain the symmetry dilemma. I will relate the importance of static correlation to the use of hybrid functionals via the adiabatic connection formula.
